since 2001, when trumpeter, conceptualist, and composer matthias mainz founded the ensemble, realtime research has presented a permanent installation, concerts and performances in temporary environments and interdisciplinary workshops. for realtime research, the term “realtime” has several meanings. In addition to referring to computed communication, realtime implies art of the moment, the “art of now” in improvisation, in progress, and in the research of sociological and political phenomena. one of realtime research’s ongoing aesthetic principles is combining elements from many artistic genres and allowing them to interact in a way of levitation. realtime research expects to create a paradox: elements that maintain characteristics that are sometimes contradictory but that are still part of a cohesive work.
